On May 31 the Boite music café will host a musical party to mark 30 years of work with music and musicians in the Great Hall of the National Gallery in Melbourne, under the famous Leonard French stained glass ceiling. In its 30 year history the Boite has hosted artist such as Alfredo Rolando Ortiz, the worlds most recorded harp player, from Paraguay.

 

Musicians Making a Difference has, for over ten years, changed the lives of young people through the power of music and the creative arts. MMAD's aim is to inspire, develop and empower young people to reach their full potential using music and the creative arts.

 

This year's National Film and Sound Archive, National Folk Recording Award has been won by Fred Smith in collaboration with the Spooky Men's Chorale for their album Urban Sea Shanties. Both Fred Smith and the Spooky Men's Chorale are well-known Australian folk music performers, but this is their first collaboration.

 

Derek Warfield, arguably Ireland's greatest living balladeer has released a new double album 'On the One Road', a mixture of classic Irish songs and music with his new band, The Young Wolfe Tones.

 

Justin Montefiore, protégé of the famous musical instrument maker Peter Biffin, is quickly establishing himself as one of Australia's most innovative luthiers, developing and refining his classical and festival guitars.

 

A mixture of Australian and New Zealand artists have performed over five nights at the Southwest Music Festival in Austin Texas.

Fiddle player Mike Kerin is becoming more and more famous as he returned home in January as the 2009 National Fiddle Champion.

 

Guy Gibson, formerly of Festival Sound is about to make a comeback. Guy will be launching his comeback with a celebration of great music performed by local musicians.

 

The Presbyterian Ladies College has paid tribute to their Scottish Heritage during Sydney's Anzac Day parade through the city streets. This is the second year in the parade for the 20 strong Pipes and Drums band.

 

Pete Seeger, singer, songwriter, musician and activist turned 90 on Sunday, May 3, 2009. In celebration of the event and Pete's musical influence, community concerts were held worldwide.

 

Youth in Performing Arts was started by West Gosford Rotary Club 17 years ago and has now been with Laycock Street Theatre for three years. The aim is to assist all Central Coast youths in advancing their performance skills.

 

Folk Alliance Australia has recently appointed a new National Co-ordinator.

 

The Peninsula Folk Club is celebrating 25 years since Even Webb first started the Peninsula Folk Club.

 

Davis Watson's Monday evening Folk Show is streamed around the world from Narrabri to Moscow.
